Full Day Optional Tour to Ouro Preto:
We are offering an optional full day tour to Ouro Preto that includes private transportation, bilingual guide and lunch at the Restaurante Deguste (Regional buffet food, Taste the typical dishes of the region: "Feijão Tropeiro and Tutu a Mineira" with desert included). 9:00 am, depart from Belo Horizonte (100km – 1hour, 30 minute drive).

Founded in 1698, Ouro Preto (black gold) is the masterpiece of colonial architecture in Brazil. Declared by UNESCO as a "Cultural Patrimony of Mankind". The town now is as an outstanding artistic and architectural example of that era.

Although Ouro Preto now relies heavily on the tourism industry for part of its economy, there are important metallurgic and mining industries located in town, such as Novelis, former Alcan, the most important aluminum, and others. Mineral riches such as deposits of iron, bauxite, manganese, talc and marble. Minerals of note are: Gold, hematite, dolomite, tourmaline, pyrite, muscovite, topaz and imperial topaz. The imperial topaz is a stone only found in Ouro Preto.

Soapstone handicraft items are a popular souvenir among tourists, and can be found in many shops in the town center and street fairs. Jewelry made of local precious and semi-precious gemstones (such as hematite) can also be found in abundance for sale.

Sightseeing Highlights:
  • Church of St. Francis of Assissi: An example of Brazilian religious architecture, designed by Aleijadinho with wood and soapstone sculptures by the same artist.
  • Museum of the School of Mines: a complete mineralogical view of Brazil, in addition to displays of geological artifacts from the other countries.
  • Church of Our Lady of the Pilar: a church that marked the culmination of Golden Age architecture, with carved works painted entirely in gold. Oratorio Museum.
  • Opera House

Arrive in Rio de Janeiro and transfer to the hotel.

Half Day Sugar Loaf & City Tour

After breakfast depart for a ride along the world-famous beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, circling the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and proceeding to the "Maracanã", one of the world's largest stadiums. Visit to the modern Cathedral in the center of town, passing by the Flamengo Park and the World War II Memorial. The grand finale of the tour: a thrilling cable-car ride to the top of the Sugar Loaf, 395 meters above the city, and a breathtaking view of Guanabara Bay.
